Lapa is a charming neighbourhood populated with old 18th century palaces with large gardens originally built for the Portuguese nobility. Casinha das Bolachas (or “Biscuit house”) is located on the site of an old bakery and is part of the recently completed “Beco da Bolacha” condominium. The house has it’s own gated entrance and is quietly and securely located away from the street surrounded by lush planting. In a city where the majority of the properties are located in converted apartments this is a unique and perfectly formed house in Central Lisbon.
We offer a minimum of 30 day stays or more where you can use the house to explore Lisbon and the surrounding beaches and countryside. The property is also perfect for working independently from home in an extremely benign climate. Lisbon boasts an average of 300 sunny days per year.
The house contains 1 ensuite bedroom with comfortable super-king sized bed, desk for working and bathroom. WIFI connection throughout. There is a sitting room with kitchen diner and guest bathroom. The kitchen is fully fitted with oven, induction hob, fridge freezer and dishwasher and there is a separate utility cupboard with a washing machine. A generously planted garden with terrace is the perfect place to enjoy the abundant Lisbon sunshine. The terrace area has a retractable awning to protect it from the sun in the summer.
Completed in 2021 to current building specifications the house is cosy and warm in the Winter with an efficient Air Source underfloor heating system and double glazing throughout. There is air conditioning for the Summer months. The house boasts an energy efficient A classification. All bills are included in the rent payable.
Glass french doors and skylights allow in an abundance of natural light. The house is located off the quiet Beco (or alley) and then through the property’s sole entranceway and down a path through lush foliage. There are no streets running directly outside the house which is a little oasis.
A 10 minute walk takes you into Santos with it’s myriad of bars and restaurants. Santos station has a direct train line to the beaches down to and including Cascais. Trains can also be taken up to the hilltop town of Sintra with it’s multitude of mountain and coastal walks. It’s a 10 minute walk from the casinha to the famous river Tagus with it’s walks up river into town and the estuary and down river towards Belem and the sea. If renting a car you have free parking a short distance away.
The house is a 15/20 minute walk from the centre of the city at Cais de Sodre station, the bustling Time Out market and Praca da Comercio. A short stroll away on Rua da Janelas Verdes lies the famous Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, which boasts treasures of Portuguese and European art.
